By March 2023, the stress from fighting the District’s discrimination had taken a heavy toll
on my health and prevented me from teaching ever again. By July 2023, I made the decision
that in spite of the physical, mental, and financial damage caused, I would pursue my right
to sue to prevent Dallas ISD’s documented practices and procedures from creating a safe
harbor for their conduct and discrimination. But even more importantly, because if not
stopped, it can provide a playbook for every Texas public school to violate child-safety,
educator due process, and state and federal statutes. Left unchallenged, District practices
may: continue the effect of elevating unverified student allegations, use their vast legal
resources to evade accountability, and discriminate with impunity.
